WINTER SHADOWS

Gray against the winter sky,

 The deciduous trees devoid of summer adornment

Appear like shadows of their former selves, skeletal, whimsical.

Yet to me, even more majestic now,

Supplicants seeking one another, reaching to the heavens

Somewhat cold and bleak,

Yet joyous in their faith of a rebirth to their splendor

With the promise of the coming Spring
